For this assignment, the client wanted the walls and floors in existing stock shots replaced with their tiles. The initial solution appears to be a Photoshop one but on closer inspection, it quickly becomes obvious that the texturing, specularity and diffuse components of the tile cannot be made evident unless the tile is put into a ‘real’ situation. The solution? Recreate the stock shots in 3D, replicate the lighting and objects (textured cubes and cylinders were used to cast shadows and reflections) then impose the rendered 3D file into the masked areas of the stock image. This workflow solved the problem so well that the initial assignment was expanded from 1 to 5 images.
